Clare Parry grew up in the vicinity of New York City, spending equal amounts of time on both sides of the Hudson. She received her BFA at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2004 with additional focus on art history, critical theory, and contemporary American history. Clare has exhibited in numerous group shows nationally and is currently pursuing her MFA at the University of California, San Diego. She expects to have her MFA thesis show this June at UCSD, June 8th-12th. She has been a TA for Haim Steinback, Teddy Cruz, Ruben Ortiz-Torres and Mathieu Gregoire and has also been working as Amy Adlers assistant since the fall of 2007.
Wherever she is situated, she enjoys getting involved in the artistic community around her, either putting together shows and events or participating in different types of collaborative efforts. This December and January, she completed an eight-week residency at the new Childrens Museum of San Diego, where she and her collaborator Julia Westerbeke created a sprawling interactive installation of furniture and collage. Most recently, Clare was on the steering committee for Supersonic (a group show of graduating Southern Californian MFAs that was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center) as the coordinating representative for the University of California, San Diego.
Clare has also completed residencies at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts (VCCA) as a Dodge Fellow (this residency was supported by the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation)(2006) and the Harold Arts and Music Residency (2007). Clare is scheduled to participate in upcoming shows in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and San Diego. She will also be starting a month long artist-in-residence this next December with her occasional collaborator, Julia Westerbeke at the de Young Museum of Art in San Francisco.
